This four-day narrative essay writing workshop is designed for students entering 9th grade in the fall. Ideally, this is for students who enjoy writing, and/or are curious about storytelling, or would benefit from building confidence before high school writing expectations increase.
Students do not need to be “advanced writers” to participate.
Each session includes a mix of:
• Short mentor-text readings from contemporary writers
• Group discussion about how writing works
• Guided writing prompts
• Independent writing time
• Optional sharing and feedback in a supportive circle
Students will spend much of the time actively writing and thinking, not listening to long lectures. Instead of analyzing text structure, we will focus on deep reflection.
By the end of the program, students will have:
• A polished personal narrative essay
• A stronger understanding of how essays are structured
• Practical revision and editing tools
• Increased confidence in their writing voice
