FAQs

What services do you offer, and for whom?

1

I offer a series of in-person writing workshops and intensives for rising 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students to progressively hone their essay writing skills in preparation for college. I also offer one on one writing mentorship, and adult writing retreats.

What kind of students enjoy this program?

2

You might think I would say, “kids who like to write,” but that isn’t a prerequisite. They need only to be curious and interested in being better prepared for the writing that will be required of them in the coming school year, the college application process, and beyond.

Your teen may have lost their love for reading and writing as their classes became more focused on rigid analysis over the joy of reading or creating a good story. Their English classes may make them feel as though they are being “taught for the test” instead of fostering a true understanding and appreciation for the writing pieces they study.

Together, we’ll read short stories, essays and excerpts from modern day authors that will illustrate myriad ways to tell riveting stories. Afterwards, we’ll have thoughtful discussions before they begin their own creative and self-reflective writing.

In our small group setting, they’ll learn how to use their own voices to build narratives that will wow teachers and admissions counselors, and build self-confidence in students who feel uncertain about writing.

What makes you different?

3

We’re here for creative, personal growth, not summer school. The intensive will be held in my garden, allowing students to write and discuss ideas in a tranquil outdoor setting.

This will be a no desks environment. I am a mentor, not a classroom teacher. With over 25 years of experience in copywriting, editing, creative non-fiction and journalism experience, I’ll give the kids tools to take their writing beyond the confines of a traditional classroom.
